08 Nov Interior Design Decisions
Looking for the right style of interior design for your Delray Beach home but find there are too many to choose from? Not a problem! You don’t have to limit yourself to just one style says Delray Beach interior designer Tiffany Woolley.
There is no single right choice for anyone. If your living room could be characterized as Mid-Century Modern, there is no rule that says you can’t incorporate a touch of contemporary style or a pop of mod color.
As the experts at HGTV say, “Nobody has to choose one or the other — think balance.”
As an example, they pointed to a dining room in a La Jolla, California, home which was the work of designer Corine Maggio. “She paired a laid-back wood bench and yellow mesh chairs with sleek black ones, and simple white board-and-batten with a dramatic navy border.” HGTV says. Lighting and wall art pull the look together.
What Is Your Style?
Did you embrace a particular style the last time you decorated your house? You might not be ready for a complete re-do, but you might be thinking that it is time to freshen things up a bit.
In another dining room – this one in a historic house in Philadelphia – interior designer Mona Ross Berman mixed things up, as HGTV reported. A spring green bar cart stands out against the floral wallpaper. The traditional drapes are edged in a not-so traditional shade of orange. Berman says the mix create a room that is “personal and unexpected.”
Another great example from the folks at HGTV involved a dining room in Maryland designed by Laura Hodges. The reclaimed wood of the trestle table was definitely country, but Hodges brought in bold shades of gray and even black as well as graphic motifs to make the space feel modern.
So, don’t hesitate to bring a touch of contemporary into your farmhouse family room or place a traditional family piece you have inherited in a sophisticated city setting.
